The history of homecoming possibily started in the late 1800s early 1900s. It is said that it started back in 1891 by the University of Missouri tigers facing the kanas jawhawks. In 1909 Baylor university was the first school to hold an organized game known as home-coming that focused on varsity sports a parade, pep- rally and maybe a concert and a bonfire. In the picture above it shows the first homecoming game played. World war II has caused the University to suspend Homecoming festivities, because half the men were leaving to join the army, with no games in 1918 or 1943-45. Following World War II, one of Homecoming's most popular traditions began in 1947 with the election by the student body of the first Homecoming queen Tucson sophomore Ruth Tackett. Then in 1983 the first homecoming was named, Don Haynes. The parades were usually held on the track and around but in 1949 they were held on the downtown of streets and the winning class announced at half time of the football game. Colleges, universities and High Schools usually take place in the homecomings.
Homecoming takes place in mid-October through mid- November. Homecoming takes a lot of preparation now. Now you have to get a class advisor, a class president and have to make sure your class is ready for the big week. Now there are so many rules and regulations you have to follow and if you don’t you will get docked points. Your points will get docked from your class.
My first homcoming was a blast i enjoyed the festivities at school. If i could i would have liked to change a few things with my homecoming i would have made my class a little more organized and give them a heads up on what was to except throughout the week because it was our first year enjoying these festivities.
Well overall homecoming is a celebration of the school coming together and taking pride in there school. Homecoming brings the whole school together to take parts in the festivities in working together using eachother ideas. Even though some classes are mad at the end of the day because they didnt win. They are happy because they got to participate inthe activities and have a good time with there friends and the new friends they created during the week. It also gives a chance to celebrate our football team and there achievements. ''there is no place like homecoming''.
